Mechagodzilla Is Hidden In The Godzilla-Vs-Kong Trailer 2021

The Godzilla-vs-Kong trailer is finally here and it may have teased the arrival of Mechagodzilla in the upcoming MonsterVerse film. Mechagodzilla first appeared in 1974 in the Japanese film Godzilla-vs-Mechagodzilla, the 14th film in the Godzilla-franchise, Godzilla-vs-Kong, the fourth film in Legendary’s Monster-Verse franchise, might have Mechagodzilla return as Godzilla’s nemesis and Mechagodzilla's origin could also explain why Godzilla has started attacking people.

Mechagodzilla has long been a rival of Godzilla but has yet to appear in the Monster-Verse unlike Godzilla’s other infamous rivals. Ghidora whom Godzilla demolished in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and now Kong. Mechagodzilla could appear as a twist villain for Kong and Godzilla to defeat together as some fans believe though the film’s creators have confirmed that there will be a clear-winner in the fight between Godzilla and Kong. Hopefully, Mechagodzilla isn’t used as a copout to keep both Kong and Godzilla from absolute defeat but it's almost certain that Mechagodzilla will be in Godzilla-vs-Kong.

In the second shot of the trailer there’s a brief glimpse of a monster that could be Mechagodzilla. A metallic looking Godzilla like kaiju rampages through a city and appears to glow red but the MonsterVerse's Godzilla glows blue. Mechagodzilla’s possible appearance in Godzilla-vs-Kong has already been speculated by fans since rumors have been floating around for a while now. Though Mechagodzilla was originally written as an extraterrestrial being, subsequent films depicted the giant, Godzilla like creature as synthetic kaiju manufactured by humans. On that same note Mechagodzilla’s MonsterVerse origin was also hinted at in the trailer.

A little over halfway into the Godzilla-vs-Kong trailer, right after Kong dodges Godzilla’s atomic breath Ren Serizawa Shun Oguri is shown standing in front of a large screen displaying a schematic. A text box is blocking most of the screen but the outline of Mechagodzilla is clearly visible. This implies that Ren Serizawa the son of Ishiro Serizawa Ken Watanabe could be the creator of MonsterVerse’s Mechagodzilla, possibly in collaboration with Monarch.

This could also explain Godzilla’s rampage. As the King of Monsters Godzilla has. to varying degrees maintained a balance between humans kaiju and Earth. Godzilla would no doubt be infuriated that humans had stolen Ghidora’s severed head in King of the Monsters and that they are now creating kaiju of their own. Yet another explanation is that it’s not actually Godzilla terrorizing cities – it’s Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla vs. Kong has promised the showdown of the century between Godzilla and Kong but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a few twists and turns along the way. Godzilla-vs-Kong needs to pay off the hype it’s built for the showdown between Godzilla and Kong or risk alienating the fans who have been waiting for more than a year since its original release date to see the film. But Mechagodzilla’s appearance could be a great way to up the ante even further and finally bring a fan favorite Godzilla villain to the MonsterVerse.
